The way Americans elect their members of Congress and the way Canadians elect their members of parliament no longer fairly represent the diversity, thoughts and desires of the voting public.
This website presents two distinct opportunities for electoral reform:
Please scroll down to see how each of the electoral systems can be brought into the 21st century.
It is hard to imagine that in the United States, a country of 330 million people, there are just two official political views in Congress –espoused by one right-wing party and one left-wing party, and no middle ground. For all intents and purposes, voters must accept the entirety of the official world view of the Republican Party, or the entirety of the Democratic Party’s official view of the world. No other political option has any chance of success in achieving a voice in Congress, save for a few ‘Independent’ Members.
The diversity of American voices is being drowned out. Animosity between the Republican and Democratic parties is extreme, as are many people’s views towards their fellow Americans, sometimes rising to a boiling point. Compromise is exceedingly difficult, and frustrations abound.
It’s time to use the flexibility that US Constitution provides, to take a fundamental leap forward in democracy. It’s time for the true diversity of the views of Americans to be heard in Congress, and to be fairly represented in the House of Representatives, with an electoral system based on proportional representation.
The Simple Vote PR electoral system has been devised to do just that. SVPR is new, devised out of concern for the future of democracy that is often poorly reflective of the views of Americans. SVPR is a system of proportional representation (PR), which, in various forms, has been adopted by most western democracies. Simple Vote PR can be implemented for the House of Representatives without constitutional amendment. It has tremendous potential to ease political tensions and increase respect for Congress and democracy overall.

How people vote for their Members of Parliament or provincial legislature in Canada is based the world as it was in the 18th century. It is a winner-take-all system that no longer fairly reflects the will of citizens, and the realities of the 21st century. It is time to make electoral systems in Canada truly democratic.
Simple Vote PR is an electoral method to achieve full proportional representation (PR) in a national or regional legislative body. SVPR is easy for voters at the ballot box, and is based on treating every vote equally. It achieves proportional representation without changing how Members of Parliament (MPs) or provincial legislatures are elected, does not enlarge or change the nature of electoral districts, keeps the number of members of parliament close to current levels, and maintains local accountability of all elected MPs.
PR is achieved by adding votes in parliament to MPs of parties that were 'short-changed' in an election, so that a political party's share of votes in parliament is the same as its share of the overall popular vote in an election. Every vote cast for a voter's preferred local candidate of a political party counts towards parliamentary voting power of that party, whether the local candidate wins or loses. 99% of all valid votes cast are counted. In today's electoral system, if a candidate does not win, his/her vote is discarded by the system.
